Yes, I go to school in a big red school house! Its adorable!
Mmmmk. So today is the beginning of the Dragon Boat Festival.
I'm not really good on Chinese holidays, but from what I understand....
Once upon a time there was a loyal and devoted servant of the Emperor named Qu Yuan. He was a poet and greatly loved by the people, but one day the Emperor began to suspect him of treason and exiled him. He wrote some of China's most famous poems during his exile, however while he was gone, a neighboring territory conquered the capital city. He threw himself into the river and drowned himself in despair.
The festival is called Dragon Boat because all of the villagers rushed out in their boats to save him. They even started throwing rice balls into the river so that the big fish would eat them instead of eating Qu Yuan's body.
The rice balls are called Zongzi and we made them today to commemorate Qu Yuan's death and loyalty.
